Malton-A Malton family is trying to figure out where the big chunks of ice that fell from their home came from.

Kim Paradise told 6 ABC that ice cubes fell from the ceiling of their kitchen on Thursday night and it sounded "like an explosion".

The video shot at the scene shows a large hole in the roof and ice cubes in the courtyard of the house.

Paradise said that when the ice hit the house, a plane flew overhead, but it was not sure whether the debris came from there. The FlightAware.com website shows the arrival routes of aircraft flying over the Philadelphia International Airport in the Malton area.

In the past, when ice hit the house, the FAA had begun an investigation to determine which aircraft were overhead at the time of the ice hit and to see if there were any reported leaks.

The ice cube that hit Malton's house seemed clear. The most common type of ice falling from an airplane is usually "blue ice." This happens when the aircraft’s bathroom storage tank leaks, then freezes and falls off.

Because of the moisture in the air, the transparent ice that forms on the surface of the aircraft will usually fall off in the form of easy-to-handle flakes rather than large pieces.

Dan Zarrow, the chief meteorologist at 101.5 in New Jersey, noted that the area was humid and windy on Thursday night.

Aviation experts say that “structural ice” may accumulate around the landing gear, struts, and tails of aircraft flying through wet clouds and may fall off. This ice can break in chunks.

However, there is no clear answer to the source of ice.

Heaven said she was happy that no one was hurt.
