Sparta-Tape manufacturer Tesa Tape Inc. recently started expanding its factory in Sparta, which is expected to bring at least 25 new jobs to the region.

The facility is located at S. Union Ave. 324. Construction began this month and is expected to be completed in June 2022. Dan Vos Construction Co. will serve as the general contractor for the project.

The plant's product development area will increase by approximately 10,000 square feet, which will include a customer solutions center. The company's manufacturing space will increase by another 28,000 square feet.

"This expansion of Sparta strengthens Tesa Tape's presence in Western Michigan and adds momentum to our efforts to ensure that Michigan's manufacturers are leading in advanced manufacturing and labor demand," said Governor Gretchen Whitmer in a report. The statement said. "With the help of companies such as tesa Tape, we can rebuild a state economy that is stronger than ever before."

With the expansion, Tesa Tape seeks to increase its influence in North America by adopting environmentally friendly production technologies to expand its local production footprint.

"The huge investment in our Tesa plant in Sparta is a step towards being able to provide more sustainable and innovative self-adhesive technologies and products to customers from important industrial sectors, such as the automotive and construction industries. Take a big step," said Daniel Germain, North America manager of the Tesa area, in a statement.

Spartan Village approved tax exemptions for industrial facilities to support expansion.

The tape company previously invested US$20 million in 2016 to expand its Spartan plant by 24,000 square feet. The company mainly serves the automotive, consumer electronics, publishing and building materials industries.

The Spartan plant established tesa's first business outside of Europe when it opened the plant in 1982. The factory currently employs 125 of tesa's 5,000 employees.
