10 things I'm absolutely overreacting to after Week 4 in the SEC

2022-10-02 15:15:22 By : Mr. Kent Wong

Christmas came early for Kirby Smart.

His Dawgs — the most dominant team in all the land, the team that has heard for 3 weeks how it’s appreciably better than the team that won the national championship last season — looked about as engaged and energetic as Uga does on hot, muggy Saturday mornings in Athens.

The outcome was never, ever, ever in jeopardy (and please don’t pretend otherwise), but Smart had to relish watching his Dawgs lick their bowl of rat poison clean. He couldn’t even hide his smirk during the halftime interview.

Now do I have your attention, men? That was not … elite.

The Dawgs are fine. Can’t say the same for Eli Drinkwitz, KJ Jefferson’s vertical, Miami’s courage or Billy Napier’s math skills.

Those are among the 10 things I’m absolutely overreacting to after a wild Week 4 in and around the SEC.

Why not? He’s the best offensive player on the best team in the nation.

Those are requisite descriptions for any Heisman favorite, though they’re generally reserved for quarterbacks and occasionally running backs.

Simply put, Bowers is doing things we haven’t seen a tight end do. Ever.

He ran for 2 more TDs Saturday, giving him 3 on the season.

That included an eye-opening 75-yard TD run to open Georgia’s scoring. What other tight end outruns a defense for 75 yards?

Second play of the game. Brock Bowers is insane

That’s basically a jet sweep designed for a wide receiver.

Late in the first half, after Bowers made an acrobatic catch to put the Dawgs at the 2-yard line, I scrambled to Georgia’s record book to see which Dawg has the most rushing TDs in a game. (Had to be Herschel, right? Nope. Washaun Ealey ran for 5 TDs against Kentucky in 2010). For whatever reason, the Dawgs decided to try other options. They still scored, but the fact that we’re looking up single-game rushing records and hoping they call rushing plays for their tight end is kind of the point.

Bowers is a legitimate triple-threat. And if Georgia ever lined him up to attempt a 47-yard field goal, I’m guessing he’d nail that, too.

If the goal truly is to give the Heisman to the best college football player in America, Bowers is making a pretty clear case week after week that he’s that guy.

I absolutely love how Reggie Bush is challenging the establishment with his latest Wendy’s commercial.

Everything about the commercial is an epic troll job directed at the Heisman Trust and NCAA folks who foolishly decided to take back his Heisman Trophy and strike his accomplishments from the record book. (P.S. We still remember …)

Even before NIL, singling out Bush for college football’s problems was akin to trying to patch the Titanic with waterproof tape.

Now? Their continued stance looks more punitive by the day.

For what it’s worth, shortly after NIL legislation passed and people again mocked the lunacy/hypocrisy of Bush v Heisman, the Heisman Trust said that they’ll happily give back the trophy as soon as the NCAA restores Bush’s numbers and names to the record book.

Bush has tweeted that he wants the trophy back.

Apparently, he’s tired of waiting. With this commercial, Bush and Wendy’s took direct aim at the out-of-touch policy-makers.

Watching Bush laugh his way through the commercial before finishing with a stiff-arm is pure comic genius.

Nobody has banged the drum harder or longer for Anthony Richardson than Overreactions.

Since last September, it seems Richardson has found a different, dynamic way to work himself into this weekly conversation.

With very few exceptions, each excerpt was full of praise, too. I mean, I gave the kid the Heisman last year after he dual-threatened USF’s very existence.

So obviously I teetered between baffled and outraged earlier this week when I read that Richardson said he couldn’t be Superman.

Excuse me? What franchise quarterback says that?

That’s part of the DNA and certainly part of the job description. Heck, Stetson Bennett has flat-out said that he’s the best QB Georgia has — and he’s been surrounded by 5-star, future NFL starters since he arrived and will be watching and perhaps analyzing their NFL exploits long after he leaves.

For Chizik’s sake, Anthony, revealing the cape was Cam Newton’s signature move!

And now, the guy whose skills most similarly match Newton’s, whose raw tools and draft hype far exceed the modest results, wants to dial back the expectations and pressure to be great — instead of embracing the challenge and screaming for more?

That’s one way to end the Cam comps.

Maybe he heard what Tim Tebow said this week, about how Richardson needed to do what was best for the Gators, not necessarily what was best for his NFL stock. Translation: Be Superman. Run the ball. Put the Gators on your back.

We saw Saturday, again, how otherworldly Richardson’s ability is. He threw for a career-high 453 yards and 2 TDs and ran it 17 times and scored 2 more TDs.

None of that really matters though if he truly doesn’t want to be the guy.

If you missed the end of the Auburn-Missouri game, you missed a classic coaching clinic — bloopers edition.

There’s too much to unpack, but Bryan Harsin and Eli Drinkwitz traded curious decisions that riled their respective fan base.

Harsin struck first, when he decided not to attempt a go-ahead field goal in the final minute. Instead, he called a running play on 4th-and-1 at Mizzou’s 29. Tank Bigsby was stuffed for a loss. Mizzou ball.

Harsin’s decision looked bad in real time and grew worse each time Mizzou snapped the ball on its ensuing drive. A long Brady Cook completion set up Mizzou with a 1st-and-goal from Auburn’s 3-yard line with 45 seconds left.

That’s when Drinkwitz made a decision that ultimately might cost him his job. Instead of trying to score the game-winning touchdown, Mizzou played for the walk-off field goal. Mizzou ran 2 plays to eat clock and stay in the middle of the field, setting up a chip-shot 26-yard field goal.

You already know what happened next. College kickers, that’s what. Harrison Mevis missed, and off to overtime they went.

Auburn ended up with more points than Mizzou, but I’m not sure either coach won Saturday.

The funniest part about this play was the fact Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson actually thought he could dive in … from the 5-yard line.

Needless to say, he did not make it.

Arkansas was on the verge of taking a 21-7 lead, but Texas A&M punched the ball out of Jefferson’s hands. Tyreek Chappell scooped up the fumble, and, well, just watch the rest. It’s the early candidate for play of the year.

Chappell’s improv hand-off to Demani Richardson not only changed the game, it likely changed the season for both parties involved.

Sam Pittman billed this as a prove-it week for the Hogs. And they played well, too. But they never recovered from this mistake.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, recovered from last week’s embarrassing loss to App State and the early deficit for another signature top-10 win.

It’s crazy how quickly 1 play can change fortunes.

1. Georgia, 2. Ohio State, 3. Clemson, 4. Alabama

Don’t discredit Clemson’s gutty win at Wake Forest by simply saying, yeah, well, it’s Wake Forest.

For 5 years, Wake Forest has fielded one of the nation’s highest-scoring offenses. Last season, the Deacons won the ACC Atlantic Division. The Deacs are legit.

If Clemson continues to get this kind of play from DJ Uiagalelie (371 yards, 5 TDs), the Tigers are legit, too. There’s nobody in the Coastal who will pose a threat. Clemson’s last huge hurdle to clear their Playoff path is a home date next week with NC State.

Alabama replaces USC at No. 4 after toying with Vanderbilt. The Tide’s passing game looked better, but the only thing Vandy football shares with Wake Forest football is world-class academics. So, advantage Clemson, at least for another week.

USC survived with a last-minute TD, which, ultimately, is all the Trojans need to do. As long as they stay undefeated — and in that league, with that QB, that receiver and that head coach, I think they will — they’ll be in the Playoff.

The Canes’ collapse Saturday against visiting Middle Tennessee came as next to no surprise to anybody who has followed them since their glory days.

Saturday’s loss was all but sealed last week, when Miami lost a brutal game at Texas A&M.

Following one loss with another is very much a Them thing with The U.

This is the 11th consecutive year that Miami has lost at least 2 consecutive games. Usually, tough losses are followed (and compounded) by puzzling losses. Elite programs don’t do this. Nick Saban hasn’t lost consecutive games at Alabama since 2013.

It’s difficult to pinpoint Miami’s most maddening example of tanking, too. There are so many.

In 2018, the Canes lost to Virginia … then proceeded to lose their next 3 after that — all 3 against unranked ACC teams.

Remember 2017? Those Canes rose to No. 2 in the country — then closed the season with 3 consecutive losses. The derailment started with a loss at unranked Pitt.

In 2016, the Canes were 4-0 and ranked No. 10. They suffered a brutal 1-point loss at Florida State and 3 weeks later they were 4-4.

In 2014, after nearly upsetting FSU but ultimately falling short, the Canes lost their next 3 games, too.

In 2013, the Canes were 7-0 and ranked No. 7. They lost at Florida State — and then lost to unranked Virginia Tech and Duke.

In 2012, they followed a loss to ranked Notre Dame by losing to unranked North Carolina.

The lesson is simple: As supremely talented as the Canes are, once they check out, they don’t come back.

That’s the culture Mario Cristobal has to change.

Hendon Hooker isn’t seen as a high-end NFL prospect and that continues to cloud his ranking as a college quarterback.

Simply put: He’s outstanding. He makes this Tennessee offense not just go, but borderline unstoppable.

Without the best receiver in the SEC (see, it can be done, Alabama), all Hooker did was join Josh Dobbs on the list of Tennessee quarterbacks to total 300+ yards passing and 100+ yards rushing in the same game.

Tennessee’s offensive numbers are impressive. But you knew that.

Want more impressive? The Vols are poised to crack the top 10 Sunday for the first time since 2016. They haven’t finished a season in the top 10 since 2001 — when Phil Fulmer’s bunch ended up No. 4.

Do that this year and the Vols make the Playoff. That obviously involves beating Georgia.

Sound crazy? Probably, but that offense vs. Georgia’s defense will be the best battle we see all regular season.

I hope, with all the money Kent State made Saturday, they’ll spend some of it on new helmets.

Today Kent State @KentStFootball is wearing its 44th different helmet in its past 59 games since start of 2017 season. Nine different logo designs with variety of color combinations. With so many options available (are they “Oregon of the Midwest?”), how was this the choice? How bland were the other 43?

It was a weird day in the SEC. Mizzou and Arkansas fumbling away wins. Napier brain-cramping on math that could have gotten him to OT. Dawgs turning it over 3 times after zero to-date. But that’s why we play the games.

We were typing at the same time. You’re faster!

Seems we were all typing about the same thing around the same time.

I didn’t think about it at the time but was Napier trying to cover the spread?

If so, Florida has a bigger problem on their hands than they might realize.

Florida will be just fine.

Hum? Good point. Maybe placing a few bets to get enough NIL money to get some half decent recruit’s. ??

Again, HATS OFF to UGA! It is difficult to get up for every game. The score vs the Kent State Indentured Servants looked close but UGA still put up sterling numbers.

Has there ever been worse collective head coaching than in the Mizzou at Auburn game?

As an outlier, I’m not sure why Kentucky is ranked 7, Tennessee 8, and why 5 ACC teams are ranked with NC State at 10? Paving the way for a Clemson return to the PO?

Love the UGA and Bama Ds but is any team going to be able to hold down the Ohio State offense? And Jim Knowles so far looks like the best off season assistant hire of the year.

Told you so. Mario Cristobal is a recruiting champ and a coaching chump. He held down Justin Herbert, Anthony Brown and he is in the process of ruining Tyler VanDyke.

As CFB continues to coalesce I cam see why the SEC might want FSU but Miami? Orlando as a media market has passed Miami and UCF is a better program.

I don’t know if many (any) of you were able to watch USC at Oregon State but Caleb Williams, even with completing less than 50% of his passes, pulled a Bryce Young in helping SC ‘steal’ the game in Corvallis. Williams was ably assisted by Oregon transfer RB Troy Dye and the Beavers shooting itself in the foot. SC rated #6 is a reach.

Hey Sooners and Horns, do you really want to join the SEC? With streaming coming on and with the additions of BYU, Cincy, Houston and UCF, had you 2 stayed in the B12 the $ would not have = the B1G/SEC, but it would not have been that far off. Plus, with a 12 team PO, where is going to be easier to win a title, B12 or SEC? That’s a redundant inquiry.

Napier knows what he is doing. He was valedictorian of his G.E.D. class.

Some crazy stuff yesterday. Mizzou and Arky basically giving the games away. UF showing a lot of guts but being undone by some weird coaching decisions.

Florida was undone by two coverage busts on defense. Missing two 2-point conversion did not cause the loss.

It didn’t help. You can’t defend it. And all those 4th down calls. It might work against a bad defense like TN. If he tries that against better defenses he’ll regret it.

I’m just being factual. I don’t disagree. Actually, going for it on fourth down from your own territory and throwing a relatively low percentage 30-yard pass (which they completed) was a much worse decision.

I would have kicked the extra points, but I understand his thought process in that particular stadium on that particular night. He obviously didn’t think the Gators could win the game playing safe. And he was probably correct. Recovering the onside kick was a lucky bounce and an extraordinary play by Diwun Black.

Ha. Yep. That 30 yarder on 4th and fairly short was wak. I wonder if that was the primary?

Napier didn’t go on 4th down against other opponents we have faced nearly as much. Tennessee’s defense was horrible and our offense was moving the ball at will. I agree with every decision Napier made except for not taking the field goal in the first drive of the game and going for the two when Florida scored its 4th touchdown.

Florida was undone by Tennessee blasting up and down the field all day my friend,, that D was carved up all day long!!! That’s why the Gators lost!

“he’s the best offensive player on the best team in the nation.”

The Georgia team I saw yesterday wasn’t the best team in the nation. Not by a long shot. Best team in the nation types do what Bama did to Vandy and Ohio State did to Wisconsin.

Best teams don’t sit back and put the machine in neutral and coast to victory while checking their instagram accounts on the sidelines.

Um, you must’ve just started watching football. Cause just a couple of weeks ago Bama could’ve should’ve got beat by a very average Texas team.

That was not a very average Texas team on that particular day, in that particular stadium.

With Ewers, they were a good team, with a backup qb, who played unexpectedly with few practice reps, very average.

Lost yesterday to an unranked team. A very average team without Ewers.

All true, but they have roster talent and they played out of their minds against Alabama.

It obvious Kent state is a way better team than Texas…

I never said Kent State was better than Texas. I said Texas wasn’t a very good football team. Try to pay attention.

No team is going to play its A game every time out And Vandy and Wisky were conference foes and not a bought and paid for cupcake opponent.

They have the Dawgs still listed as #1 in their playoff teams. While I believe the Dawgs will likely be fine down the line, the team that played yesterday would probably lose to Tennessee, Kentucky, and maybe Florida. I hope this is the teaching moment those players and the coaches needed.

It was definitely another weird Saturday in CFB.

100% agreed. We’d definitely lose to Tennessee, Mississippi State, Kentucky & probably Florida playing like we played yesterday.

UGA looked like it could have cared less to be on the field yesterday, and that attitude has to change. Now.

okay, uga didn’t look great yesterday. no disagreement.

now, tell me which top 25 team has looked great all 4 weeks? of the top 7: uga was unimpressive in wk 4. bama was unimpressive in wk 2. osu was unimpressive in wk 1. mich was unimpressive in wk 4. clemson was unimpressive in wk 1. ok lost in wk 4. usc was unimpressive in wk 4.

maybe not a strong argument, but maybe one could say that tn and om have collectively put the best efforts together through the first 4 weeks….at least in comparison to what the expectations were coming into the season.

Your not just a top 25 team. Your last year’s champion and your coach is trying to hold you to those standards by working on your passing game. You’ll need more to beat the better teams. Many teams haven’t looked as impressive. That is called more competitive football in any given year. I harp on Kirby for not concentrating on this more and he did yesterday. Might not look as impressive yesterday but that is the work your coach is putting in. Your working the drop off effects and yesterday went a long way into recognizing the issues, and now you can work them. Valuable game for UGA imo.

There is a difference in OSU struggling in game #1 with Notre Dame and Alabama struggling in game #2 on the road with Texas and Georgia struggling with Kent State at home in week 4. Those type kinks should be worked out by now.

rxmaster Should they be? They only brought back 59% from last year. The drop off is unpredictable until one of two things happen. You play a team that tests you or you have a gimmie game and work in the area where you lost the most production. For UGA, it’s wide receiver and you can’t live off one or two good TE’s. No team can win it all exclusively with TE’s. Period. McKonky got the opportunity to see where he’s at as well as SB. The issues are clear and what needs to be done. UGA could ahve just ran it all day and bully balled their way to a larger margin of victory. But they stuck with the game plan to find these issues. But also what happened was a somewhat poor day at tackling for UGA on D. Once again, the drop off factor. But good to know it now than down the road. You can’t fix these issues if you don’t scheme to find them. Post season losses happen this way and did last year for UGA in the SECCG. UGA does not have that D this year and its crazy to hold this entire team to last years standards. Work those issues and it was a game for that.

rx, no disagreement that uga’s wk 4 hiccup deserves more questions/shade than osu’s and bama’s noted games from earlier in the year. my intention was simply to say that no one has been above critique through the first four wks

CONSIDER THE OPPONENT. UGA players are going to get up for Kent State with the conference games that are coming up?

Kent State players highly motivated to play #1 in the country.

UGA players? Let’s get this over with and party.

Solid post. But you got valuable work in to find out where your long ball game is and where your receivers are outside of Bowers. He’s developed and will be doubled going forward as any very good player normally is. This was a game scheme to examine those things in the passing game and work on the issues from the drop off and measure it. This was a wise scheme and you would have just ignored the passing long game in large but you didn’t. That is a coaching progression of common sense for Kirby..

It does seems like every playoff contending team is beatable this year! I credit that to the impacts of the transfer portal and NIL spreading out the talent. On a related note, Kent State(my former college) is probably the best team in the MAC which isn’t saying much but they also have played the hardest non-conference schedule in the land. They played Washington and Oklahoma so they were already seasoned before they played UGA this Saturday which I guarenteed you helped them keep it “close”

If you have 11 guys breathing on defense, you will beat TN and FL.

I would just worry about the clown show in Columbia if I were you.

Lol, I think TN is still gaining yards on the Swiss cheese FL calls a Defense. I think we will be ok, especially against the Gators we walked over the last time we played

I am pretty confident you will not see that team this time around.

Yeah, you may be worse, especially on defense.

Bill Lets Party Belichick Wrong. If you aren’t brining the house every play on D, they will pick you apart. They will beat SC. Sorry, it’s just going to happen.

Gwhite, I get it you want it to seem closer so your team didn’t look so bad. Facts are your team couldn’t even cover and that’s your first win against a subpar FL in how long. Both D’s were terrible, it was an ugly game, nothing like the days of Fulmer vs Spurrier. I like our chances. still waiting to see TN go against a GA, reality will set in real quick

Hey let’s party,Why don’t we wait and see how your defense is breathing when we play later this year. Then, you can talk betweengasps and”cramps”in 40 degree weather.

But SC won’t beat either one

It’s cute that Vol fans are buying their hype, see you later in the season after your team gets expose by actual competition. They can’t all be Ball State or GA State, wait a minute, lol

There is slime to none of SC beating either of these teams and slim left town. The stats do not work in your favor if you don’t blitz all game long and well, let’s face it, your just not going to do that. We brought 7 and 8 at times and he still got the ball off.

Bill Lets Party Belichick Even when we weren’t great, why don’t you go check the series for how you have done against TN even than..lol. We are going to drop 40 on you in the first half, chuckle than put in the backups and see how you do against our fast backups. Rattler is no more a threat than Slovis was. But at least he could run..lol

Lol I put Rattler in the Pickett spot more than Slovis, funny that’s the best you could do because TN’s biggest test came from the 4th best team in the ACC Costal, but hey they can’t all be GA State’s can they.

Comments like this are why SC is only a notch up from Mizzou. Prolific offense is still undefeated in the post season. When we see it. Last year, there were no offenses like that. Bama played one game this way in the SECCG. And only one for the season like that.

Gwhite where exactly do you think TN is? There’s GA, KY then the rest of the East, but hey that huge orange tub of sh*t said rocky tops back and so that’s good enough for you and your toothless brethren. How about hold your comments until you actually play a football team before shooting off

But but but….. The U is back…..

They are back… back in Coral Gables after playing another away game in their home stadium, 21 miles from campus.

‘You are what your record says you are.” Bill Parcells

The Dawgs should be well rested. Haven’t seen that much sleep-walking since 2020.

I haven’t seen that much sleep walking since the Mark Richt era when we’d consistently play down to our overmatched opponents, and then get treated to the usual catchy post game stuff like “it looked like Georgia didn’t get off the bus.”

My first thought was UGA vs S. Carolina, but without the missed FGs.

Reminded me of the 90’s UT Teams that drove me nuts. Playing down to bad teams.

“And now, the guy whose skills most similarly match Newton’s”

AR is a good QB. He is not Cam. Cam single handedly won games, and imposed his will on defenses. Just ask LSU, UGA and Bama.

Cam Newton, best college football player I’ve seen. Anthony Richardson, not even close.

Cam Newton was playing Juco football at Blinn College after getting kicked out of UF at the stage of his career where Anthony Richardson is now.

AR may not be another Cam Newton, but it’s still early. And while we still need to see game-to-game consistency, “running backs playing quarterback” don’t throw for 453 yards.

Still, AR is no Cam Newton. You’re dreaming until proven correct by AR’s resume someday… someday that may never come.

Then don’t compare today’s AR to Cam at AU. Cam has done it and has the hardware. At this point AR is just dreaming of being good enough to not lose games for his team. He may turn out to be the best, as of now you don’t know what you are going to get.

I am not suggesting that AR will reach those heights. But he does have the size, speed and arm strength. He also has very good throwing mechanics. None of us know what the future holds.

They can and do when you have UT’s defense on the other side of the ball.

Who is this Chris Wright joker? He is overreacting to a UGa Kent State game that was a big nothing burger??? Only one mention of a UT game??? He questions Hookers NFL draft future??? Florida is now 0-6 against the mighty Vols in Mens Basketball, Baseball and now Football in 2022. Go Big Orange!!!

“Florida is now 0-6 against the mighty Vols in Mens Basketball, Baseball and now Football in 2022. ”

UT just snapped a horrible streak against Florida yesterday. Come on, let him use “mighty.”

Pretty impressive stat UT is 6-0 in 2022 against UF Mens Basketball, Baseball and now Football.

“UT just snapped a horrible streak against Florida yesterday.”

They can be mighty for a year, until the universe returns to its natural state.

UT football claiming 4 national titles in the poll era without being ranked #1 in either one at the end of season. Now claiming dominance over UF in this landmark “6-0” stretch in multiple sports over a course of a single season after beating the gators for only the second time in football in 19 years! The gift that keeps on giving, the thoughts of UT fans!

Don’t forget, Vols win one big game that they were supposed to win and all of a sudden their fans think they are the greatest team of all time. They forgot what success tastes like so they act like they’ve never been here before.

True, it’s been a minute but we know who we are offensively. UGA is trying to find that out in their passing game. UF also looked better throwing the ball yesterday than UGA did against Kent. A growing pain game for UGA and a few lessons for the TN D. Also, thank goodness we had the Baseball HC there as well as other good UT sports players and coaches there to remind us of what success looks like..lol. Take a look around. Neyland was built on success. We could play bad defensively and still beat a ranked team or two. Few teams can say this.

gwhite what number are you? Or what position do you coach? Apparently your a member of the team or coaching staff…you’re always using the word we…so I’m just asking…

The G fan 43 Pay attention folks. This is what you say when your the dumbest guy in the room. “gwhite what number are you? Or what position do you coach? Apparently your a member of the team or coaching staff…you’re always using the word we…so I’m just asking…”

Your conceding the argument and go full blow tawd..lol Wisdom in years, and watching the game probably since you were an itch between your parents. lol

You try so hard to sound funny you little dip$&it…but you’re the only one that finds the bs you type funny…you sound like a 12 year old little girl with all your lol $hit…I feel sorry for the people that have to put up with you regularly…I bet you’re one of those big mouth SOB’s that always has to be heard…I bet the best part of those people’s day is when your dumb@$$ leaves and goes back to your rusted out single wide…

UT looked mighty impressive yesterday! For real!

“Auburn ended up with more points than Mizzou, but I’m not sure either coach won Saturday.”

TN has been through misery for decades. I feel your pain.

Pain was watching Auburn yesterday’s offense and UGA’s attempt at working the longer passing game..lol. The timetable for despair against UF for TN lasts for only one week a year. But not this year and not moving forward. And hey, if UF can improve to give UGA a game also besides TN, I will take that.

KY has been through misery for… ever?

Arkansas was getting ready to be up 21-7 on TAMU before that fumble. Don’t sleep on them. They are a good team. Wish I could say the same.

Good team, yes. Great team? Well great teams don’t allow that kind of comeback. Kudos to AM as they were written off for dead and came back against a good team. Tough loss for Arky, but perhaps season changing win for AM.

“Well great teams don’t allow that kind of comeback. ”

UF was coming back late in the game yesterday. Had AR not thrown an INT…

TN made football sins yesterday. When your leading 38 to 21 with 5 min left in the game and your at the foe’s 30 yard line, you never ever go vanilla run wall ball. You keep your foot on the gas peddle. You get a first down, game’s over and you win in blowout fashion. You score, you win in even more blowout fashion. Terrible scheme to wear the clock on useless runs. Bad. Also, blitz more please. USF nearly won doing this from start to finish. It does not mean blitz every down but certainly sending more per play. It allowed AR to find rhythm. This was a huge blunder on D scheme. Daring him to throw on us does not mean scheming to make it easy to do so..lol.

The blunder is UT’s defense.

backwaterblue Oh? Sure but you tell me how many defenses defeat very good offenses. How’d UGA’s offense do against LSU in 19, or UF, Bama in 20? Or the SECCG? One they hit a certain level, and that level is work your secondary to success, they don’t need to run the ball to BEAT YOU! If your offense can do that in kind, you get blown out. D’s can do only so much. If UF there yet, no. Is TN’s offense? Close.

I feel for Arky. That was a tough loss. When I saw the line favoring A&M, I was wondering what teams they were looking at. You can say Arky gave it away and that A&M was lucky. True, but the Aggies hung around and took advantage of it. Another article captures it best for A&M: This win is more important for 2023/24 for A&M than this season. Jimbo needs the young talent to keep the faith and stay out of the transfer portal.

He didn’t say great team. He said good team. You said great and then acted like you were debating someone.

Tennessee fans are always ‘bating themselves.

One score Arkansas-A&M games are just the norm it seems. Doesn’t matter which team is favored or “better”, that game is going to be close.

kinda confused why you’re just glazing over the fact that UGA struggled for a bit yesterday. if bama had struggled (which they did against texas, who is definitely better than kent state and who we played away) the media would be going insane. i’ve seen zero articles about worrying about georgia, though. it’s kinda funny

I think you’re on to something.

onto what? are you suggesting that uga is the new media darling?

LOL Captain obvious gets it..lol UGA threw only 1 TD yesterday against Kent State.. Let that sink in.. You could have run for more TD’s yesterday and win by a larger margin but you worked on what needed to be worked on. WR and QB development downfield and saw what your issues were that you all have pretended wasn’t there.. Credit to Smart for scheming this. One TE can’t carry the team alone against better schools in your passing game. Won’t work. Got to develop McKonky and others.. SB will get more accurate but you have to do it every week.

P come on man. I hope your being sarcastic.

The media with certain teams does not point out issues. It’s their job not to in some respects. They have headline teams and you’ll find most of the time these are teams they go out of their way to avoid criticizing. But your coach isn’t ignoring them as he has in the past. He put the ugly out there, meaning the thing that you don’t do well enough. Long ball and he got a good look at what’s good and bad. Bowers good, McKonkey bad, SB’s accuracy, wasn’t there in the long game but guttted through it. Part of getting better is recognizing where your weaknesses are and Kirby was all about scheming yesterday to find them and recognize them. SB didn’t hit three hundred but attempted 36 passes. His long was only 23 yards. Not good. One INT, some hurries and sacks but it’s better to see this now than against TN and be able to work on it before than. Those aren’t Heisman stats by any measure but at least you know where you are in this area to work on.

Is that sarcasm P? I sure hope so, or are you seriously saying you think the media or the hacks they try and pass off for writers on this site would be treating Alabama with the same kid gloves if Kent St had played within 1-2 scores for 60 minutes against us?

Clowns like Kanell, Herbstriet, Klatt and the hack who wrote this tr@$h article dropped Bama immediately for a close win at Texas….who is #6 on ESPNs talent index. So whether you think Texas is good or not, they at least have the talent to play with Alabama. Would you say the same about Kent St?They have all since doubled down and dropped Alabama even further despite winning every other game by 50+. They all have Ohio St over Alabama despite a clunker at home to a lousy ND team. This clown didn’t even have us in the top 4 last week, and yet every one of them is more than willing to gloss over their #1 team being pushed hard for 60 minutes by a MAC team.

If you’re not kidding, please enlighten us all how you don’t see Jawjuh being catered to in the media

It is quite literally sports media’s job to pile on teams that under-perform and to fawn all over the presumed best team because it fills air time.

So yes, Georgia is absolutely the new media darling.

No team is as good or as bad as the media would have you believe.

okay, in conjunction of the articles, updated rankings, etc. from the media following the wk 4 games…i’ll yield. uga seemed to have received nominal critique. new territory for a dawg fan.

Its because kent state is a legit team… playing a power 5 team with a top 6 BCR and coming a way with a struggle win is way worse then struggling at home against a team like Kent state who just put 63 on liberty…

Not just anyone walks away with a 17point victory over Kent state..

Bama survived Texas by one point, UGA beat Kent St handedly by 17. Those things are not the same, even if UGA started out sluggish. I remember plenty of championship Saban teams that had that head scratcher wake up call game; it almost seemed like one of his motivational tactics at one point, an effective one too

You’re right.. Texas is a power 5 team with a top 6 BCR who was at home….

Do I need to break down Kent state for you?

It’s funny that it was a head scratcher wake up game for one and a game that showed big problems for the other.. lmao..

But let’s be fair here. Kirby could have run all day long and won by a larger margin. This was a game he schemed to see where his WR’s were at and long ball game. He found some issues. This was a move I been waiting for by him. This wasn’t a sleepwalk, it was an effort to discover issues downfield outside of TE play. TE game carried the game as well as some ground but he had to find this out in a game me made it a point to. A ten point lead for UGA in the 4th against Kent State is less of an issue than not exposing these issues, especially going forward. He’s working drop off issues as he should be.

I’m not so sure Kirby could run it all game and beat them by more. Coming into this game, Jawjuh was like 80th in the country in rushing yards per game, and even in this game their leading rusher was the TE.

So far I have seen that Jawjuh is mediocre at both running the ball and stopping the run.

So your not-so-veiled theory — and I find this hilarious — is that Kirby used the Kent State game to try to see if his offense is capable of keeping up with Tennessee by throwing deep.

That is the most priceless gwhite comment in at least 48 hours, even better than the 50-10 Tennessee-Florida prediction.

They need to work on that run game because they couldn’t get a legitimate push from their line all game. Their backs were routinely being hit initially at or near the line of scrimmage. If you take away Georgia’s quick passes, they’ll lose by 2+ scores.

Sure. And open up the run. Defensive coordinators make decisions on what they will live with.

Gabriel RTR Fair point and let me answer it. That rushing stat for UGA is based on one game primarily. Rushing for only 127 against Samford. One game, that’s it. In that game they appeared to start out trying to throw the ball and work on some passing. More attempts in that game. Sure, there is a drop off on both sides of the ball. Happens everytime when teams lose this much depth. Look at Bama last season compared to their 2020 team. A lot of drop off. But give them credit for sacrificing some stats to work on it. Do you really believe if UGA wanted to run the ball they could only manage 127 on Samford? Be real. We will see how they’ve adjusted to the departed talent in tougher games. I don’t foresee a cakewalk with TN, UK and maybe even UF. TN will score twice what they did on UGA last year. Now is about finding out how much UGA can score on TN before the game. Every game matters for this in development.

Clearly you watched a different game than we all did. Kent St was within one score until just before the half, and they played most of the game within 2 scores. I’ll reiterate….Kent Freaking St played the “unstoppable” #1 team in CFB within 1-2 scores, in their own house for almost the entire game.

If you think that isn’t worse in every way to Alabama winning close on the road against a team with top 5-10 recruiting classes annually, you are just being willfully ignorant

Arguable point but well taken. That is up to the media how they rank them but at this point in the season and due to it being top three rankings, it does not matter right now. The media will see you how they see you. Panic if they drop you out of the top 4 or 5 when you still won every game. It won’t come to that if you win out, zero chance. TN game could be tough. They just got a game in which a QB could run and throw with wild abandonment at times. They won. Last year, they would have lost to this UF team that came to Neyland. If TN beats LSU and comes into the Bama game undefeated. The ranking will be high for TN and if Bama were to even lose that by a point or win by one, you won’t suffer anything that you can’t recover by season’s end for the playoffs. Bama has never been denied the playoffs with one loss. Not going to start this year. But there is a drop off this season too with Bama. You lost some great offensive guys and a few on D. Three or four teams from each SEC division look to be capable of beating any of those teams. The media is reacting to this and might change several times before the end of the season.

UGA wasn’t asleep yesterday. Just stop. They were actually trying to work on their downfield passing game and it did not impress. McConky was bad, made no WR adjustments to catch ugly passes that were just catchable with adjustment. It also showed that living on one TE to carry the game can get you a win against Kent State, but not really anyone else in the top 10 plus TN. SB’s passes were inaccurate messes for part of this game. Sure you could have just run all game long and eventually win by more. But, you worked on the things i’ve been mentioning because your going to need it against the better teams. The drop off is real, stop the nonsense in saying it isn’t there. It is and your trying to improve your passing to limit the effects of it. So, now that most of you are down to earth a little more can now understand what your coach was trying to do yesterday and its about F’king time!

Da** man you talk more about UGA than you do about your vols…it’s hilarious

Why? UGA is my second fav team. Plus, your the worst UGA fan..lol I’m still trying to decide if your IQ will reach 40 by the end of the season. Go smoke a skin puppy Sling blade..lol

2nd favorite team…gtfoh …Sling blade? It’s a wonder some one hasn’t done your dumb@$$ like Cral did Doyle…you ignorant little tick tu#d

Richardson Heisman talk again in a serious manner? No, not unless you can win at least 9 games. That is the cut off they’ve made apparent. Can UF win 9 games? TN not blitzing enough and sending more to the box is what allowed Richardson to do anything in the passing game. And no, USF is not better on D than TN but they sent more pressure from start to finish in their game. Let’s see if bright coaches will do the only obvious things that’s worked on Richardson going forward. Credit to him, once he gets time, he has the WR’s and ability to hit some mid range and a couple of longer range passes with accuracy. Respect.

I don’t know what Heisman talk you’re hearing. Maybe it’s an echo.

Tennessee blitzed six on that last play because Richardson had no choice but to throw deep, which would take over three seconds. Doing that throughout the game would have been suicidal.

True and ask me why TN never blitzed that many times during most of the game? He played smart and we needed a game like this for Bama and UGA. Last year he might have beaten us. Surely to have gashed us for more yards rushing.

I’m glad UT actually sent pressure on that last play. I hate when teams rush 3 put the rest into coverage.

Speaking about helmets(Kent State), how about Vandys helmet last night. I like it, even though they got trampled by the Pachyderms, I like the helmet. Bama better be ready for the R’Backs because these sooies are going to come out running wild after wee wee loss to TAMU. Heisman, I agree UGA Bowers, is currently the best. Miami? I thought this was a SEC site not ACC. Mo and Aub game, it felt like a high school game. Rocky Top and Lizards game Honestly, it just look like there was a curse on the T. Thankfully they beat those lizards. I’m still waiting for Ole Miss to put a shark on the helmet. Jaws theme, why not, colors match. Top 4 1. Bulldawgs of UGA 2. Brutus Boys of Ohio State 3. Elephants of Alabama 4. Wolves of Michigan

I just don’t think we know enough of Michigan yet do we? Who have they really played? Was Maryland a titan?

Nope and last year everyone was sold they’d give UGA a game. I thought possibly not since they didn’t have a dynamic passing offense, nor did they look like they could do much more if their running game was stuffed. They didn’t. We’ll have to see if they’re passing offense starts to move up the rankings and look closely at those stats. As well as their QBR.

Nice post! Man every TN fan next week when we’re off, will be glued to the TV and the biggest Hog fans. Give us the blue print Hogs to tear this team from limb to limb..lol

I know for a fact Hendon Hooker’s name is circulating in NFL scouting circles. He is a topic of conversation. Also, SDS mentioned Will Levis’s name in the preseason NFL Draft talk, and I’ve never heard it once.

To be fair, I only know two people at one NFL organization, so there might be other teams talking about Levis.

Fascinating handle. How did you come about it?

You are the first person who had mentioned it, and your assumptions are probably correct.

Facts. NFL scouts have been known to give a look at efficient, physical QB’s who can throw and run. Rodgers is dangerous. A throwing machine. Glad we don’t play you all this season by the way.. and I ain’t sorry a bit for sayin.

Tennessee is not a playoff threat. Playoff teams have defenses.

They also more of the time have offenses..lol. LSU had one of the worst D’s and won a title in 19. OU back in 17. Oh, you’ll learn these things as your team becomes more familiar with higher level football.. If your unbeaten and have the best offense in the SEC or are in the top 10 nationally, your a threat. You blitzed and brought more pressure in your game with UK than TN did. That was good. We didn’t do the same. Are you a threat pulling out a one score win over N. Illinois last night? LOL

never said UK was threat. You’re delusional if you think anyone is playing within a score of UGA or Bama this year.

There are a couple teams that will play within a TD of Georgia and Alabama. Both will likely need the regular season with a loss.

Be that as it may but your ranking in the top ten makes you high on the list for teams to give you their best shot and yes, they will treat you as an equal threat to everyone else in the top ten. I see what you don’t. Neither is playing quite to what they were last season. But those two teams, stat backed aren’t what they were last year at this time. The both suffered some drop off which is a yearly thing and varies. Kent State was within 10 of UGA in the fourth. Texas as a one point loser to Bama. Are you for real dude? lol It’s literally already happened with one of these teams. Both deserve attention because of their recent successes. But every year is a different year in the era of NIL and the portal. And it hasn’t been the same this year as last year by a mile. 4 games in has told us this quite plainly.

LSU had one of the worse defenses in 2019??? What the hell are talking about? The 2019 defense started the year off slow but was really good by the end of the year. Have you looked at the guys that are in the NFL from that defense.

It’s hard to know if that idiot is being serious or not…soon he will be telling us this UT team is better than 2019 Lsu or 2020 Bama…

Vandy hung 40 on LSU and LSU didn’t get what, one stop on Bama? Or just one. It was a bad D by stats and it wasn’t made up out of thin air. They improved at the line as the season went on but overall, not, not a great D, barely a competent D for what the offense could do. But did just enough and I mean just enough to win it all. How was the D the following year? lol. They played up in 19 later in the season but before that year and after weren’t great. Sure, the NFL sees the standouts on a natty team. Big deal. It’s the production overall for a D that matters. LSU’s offense was at the point that they could win a game trading score for score and with one break on D, could win a game. Vandy, 40 on them. Did you forget about that? LOL. They couldn’t stop air that year and when LSU’s offense boat raced their offense other offenses could not match that output and tired on D. That is fatigue not elite D.

The G fan 43 Offensively, eventually yes. And your still a moron..lol

I knew your dumb@$$ would say that…da&n you’re one sad sack…UT’s offense is no where near those two teams…you’re so da&n delusional…I should stop arguing with you…it isn’t polite to argue with mentally challenged people such as yourself…sad

I thought Tennessee’s defensive line played better than I expected last night.

Not enough blitzes and our DB’s tackled poorly. This was the first game they really didn’t use the freshman backups that are very fast. There isn’t anyone on the first string that can out sprint, Dylan Sampson, White or maybe even Josephs possibly. None of them played in this game.

LSU’s defense played very well down the stretch in 2019.

That 2019 LSU Def was VERY ELITE down the stretched. Blanked Arky, shut down UGA and was like Best Def in the playoffs! Shut down high scoring OU and Clemson. The Vols could only dream they had that ability.

Okay, your never going to get to elite when you do and are two things. 1. Allow Vandy to hang 40 plus on you in that same season you even won a title. 2. You won a title 99% because of your offense. When your that good, all you need on D is one stop against another elite offense and score on every possession. That is still your D getting burnt 99% of the time. And that is exactly what we saw with the LSU vs Bama game than. They did improve against weaker foe but this is masked when your offense blows everyone out. It was a bad D that lost a high percentage of battles on foe drives against top ten teams. That never changed. This is why the better your offense got, the more leeway the D has in stops.

And a UT fan knows about CFP potential how? Does this guy really believe what he says? UK beat UF by 10 at the Swamp, how many did you get them by at home? See if you are going to compare games try using a common opponent, but that doesn’t fit for delusional people.

We are paying customers and we know what we see when we see it. Live long enough and you’ll eventually get it. Twenty six on UF’s D.. lol That is not going to beat Bama or has a chance to, let alone TN. We just used a common opponent. lol Are you dense? We almost scored twice as much as UK did on UF’s D. They did a better job of blitzing and held AR in check the better for it. That alone should have given UK a chance to hang more than 26 on UF’s D. It was and still is ranked poorly in scoring Defense. Also, a lackluster showing against Northern Illinois. In what universe do you think TN would hang far more on N. Illinois than what UK did?? I think UK might struggle with Auburn. Their offense isn’t great but their D, it will take UK some wear down to get the better of them. You didn’t see the same AR we did but if you played them again. I’d be tempted to take UF.

14 of Tennessee’s points against Florida were attributable to total coverage busts. That is much less likely to happen against Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky.

Tennessee is going to lose to Alabama and Georgia. They may lose to Kentucky, which has good defensive discipline and experience.

I get it now. gwhite is always referencing the stats that are in his favor.

He mentions how many more points they scored against UF than UK did, failing to mention how many fewer points UF scored against UK (i.e. UK won by 10, UF by 5).

It’s kind of like being a break-even sports bettor, but only ever talking about your winning bets.

Teams that WIN playoff games have defenses, plenty of Oklahoma teams have made that playoffs without a defense

That’s a good comparison . UT offense isn’t quite to the level of Ok in it’s last playoff appearance, and the defense is proportionally a bit behind OKs defense as well, but the general make up and “feel” of the two teams are comparable. If the Vols didn’t have to play UG and UA in the same season, I could definitely see them getting to the playoffs and sadly getting smacked down by more balanced teams .

Correction* playoff contenders win games. Speaking of defense, didn’t KY defense only hold Northern Illinois to only 5 points less than they had against Vandy??

As someone else has said, “you’re as good as your record says you are.” UK won and is 4-0. Teams are judged by wins and losses, not how they did against a particular team when compared to Vanderbilt.

And there isn’t another team in the SEC East not named Georgia with a defense as good as UK.

Fortunately, seasons don’t depend on doing a little less well against a good, but not great, opponent that you win against regardless.

That comparison won’t be complete until we play Vandy. Are you predicting UK loses to Vandy or only squeaks by them?

That OL better figure things out or they are going to get Levis hurt.

You aren’t lying. It’s getting to the point of being a really big concern going into SEC play.

You aren’t lying at all. It’s getting to the point of being a really big concern going into SEC play.

Thanks SDS, for the worst comment software in 21st century social media.

Exactly, TN is in trouble when they face a halfway decent defense. They can’t all be cupcakes.

Been watching SEC ball for over 35 years. The team speed across the higher-level teams is incredible. The Vols offense moves in a flash. Could be why Napier didn’t play for the field goal on UF’s first possession. The UGA TE, my goodness. The RB from A&M, cuts well and accelerates like crazy. Ark QB and running game…not all offense though. Gators secondary, UGA defense, UK defense…just examples. Haven’t watched much Bama so far, but always elite. This conference is the best…Likely missed other players/teams in this comment…regardless, SEC ball is awesome! Loving my Saturdays as a marooned SEC guy in the mountains of upstate NY. Cheers to all of our teams!

Man I know what you mean about living up there. I lived in Carthage, just on the edge and was out in the dacks a lot. I miss the snow, insane to say. Nice area and most people assume NY is just city, so so much more. Nothing like watching football up there in a lake effect or snow squall. I think if Syracuse were to go back to open field instead of the dome, they’d own some of the southern teams again..lol

Some years ago, I was going up 81 and a cop pulled me over for a taillight just south of a severe lake effect snow band. Says to fix it than asks me where I’m going. I say, up into the lake effect to play. “Are you crazy son?”. lol yes, yes I am. Solid practice for driving in any snow TN could deliver us.

I feel you on that G. Lived in Gainesville 22 years, had to relocate for work. College ball more Big 10, if any at all here. I’m outside Albany. Great fly fishing. Lots of NFL fans…(the college teams here…let’s just say Lacrosse is more popular). Converted one Yankee. Great friend, born here, Patriots guy. Got him on going on SEC ball. We watched/drank/laughed, all while the wives/kids did their thing. He couldn’t believe how fun it was. Gave him a Gator jersey, he gave me a Patriots jersey. Ate tailgate food for SEC games, drank (more than we should have). Lost him in December. Back to solo but raise a glass every saturday this season to a Yankee convert! Cheers G. You’re a good guy.

Nice. Miss the days. Used to go up to Lake George and down to the gunks in the Catskills. Thousand Island region to. Good people up there and never a dull moment. Lacrosse will catch on down here, you’ll see..lol Make sure you also raise a glass for my Vols!

Bowers is an awesome weapon. Best all around player I have watched this year, maybe last year too. Why not a legit heisman candidat.

Sorry Reggie you cheated, got caught and are paying the price. No you can’t have it back.

You’re welcome Florida. History repeated itself in one sense anyway. I can recall how many times the vol D has been the cure for an opponent’s struggling qb. Only have one good leg ? No problem, have to use a WR at tge position? No problem, … AR looked great. Both teams D looked awful. Luckily ours pkayed a little better. There are some really talented QB’s coming up on the schedule and if we play D like that we r in trouble.

I don’t think drink made the wrong call on the kick try. That was a very high % kick for their kicker. Neither team is very good and both coaches are toast. Harsin this season and drink next, if not this season.

No we are not a playoff threat…..yet. But it’s coming.

Uga sleepwalking thru a game happens. Expect a huge performance next. But if it happens again it could be cause for concern.

Yep. Imo, Drink is only a few losses away from receiving some tremendous pressure to get him gone. You look at that schedule and realize there doesn’t look to be many wins on there at this level of play. He’s got to do one thing very well to attract more talent. If offense was his calling card, it has to shine now. Scoring 30 in a loss looks better than scoring 14 on a bad SEC team. But wins he needs this season.

UGA I think used this game exclusively to try and see where they are in the longer passing game and how good the WR’s are. Well, they found out that there are some big issues here. McKonky did poorly and some passing accuracy issues for SB and how one man can carry a team. Bowers. Great TE game for them but going to need more WR’s developing and a scheme that can move the ball if the TE game isn’t enough against the better teams. Credit him for scheming this game in such a way to find these things out, expose and fix them. A ten point game in the 4th isn’t a panic here for UGA. They could have just run the ball all day and won by a larger margin. Respect for Kirby for scheming this to find these things out and measure them.

Reggie cheated like folks who smoked dope in states where it’s now legal cheated.

Cam Newton and his Old Man didn’t ‘cheat?’

About #9, it has no business here and Bush VOLUNTARILY forfeited his trophy. Acting like he is some kind of vic is just not smart (this moderation is getting out of hand)

This was moderated five times apparently for the word v I c t I m, great job sds

Mighty Mighty close to giving the game away !!! Never ever leave Gators unattended or they will take your lunch, dinner and everything you’ve worked years to acheive LOL !!! Thanks for an instant classic and hope for many more this season. Go SEC !

Napier had a brain fart. No doubt. But if Shorter had caught that little out pattern with 6 seconds left and put us in FG range, he would be really feeling heat for that stupidity.

CBN definitely was the glaring weakness yesterday. I thought driving down on the opening drive (which lasted 5 minutes) and passing a short FG was a really bad blunder at the time (was in Section Z15 yesterday). Handed the Vols all the momentum. Which we wrestled back from the Vols after UF held them on 4th down with ~5 minutes to go holding a 14-10 lead. Told my son at the time that we needed to kill some clock and get a couple of first downs to go up 14 – 10 (or perhaps 17 – 10 or 21 – 10) at the half. What we could not do is let UT have the ball again with enough time to take a halftime lead given they got the ball first in the 2nd half.

Then on top of those mistakes there was the clear 2 pt conversion blunders. CBN’s learning on the job a bit. SEC play is a different beast. He’ll be better for it next time I believe. He made some questionable calls vs UK as well on 4th down. I get the aggressive play calling to some degree (especially in the 4th quarter vs UK). But in the first quarter playing keep away from UT on the momentum scale is ultra important when playing SEC road games. Richardson likely cost us the UK game while this time it was on CBN. But these guys are definitely competitive and I don’t think they will throw in the towel like the team did at USC last year.

Have a chance to win 2 straight before the LSU home game. The team is playing hard that much is evident. But Mullen was a better gameday coach (at least at this point in CBN’s tenure/career). However, CBN is obviously making up a lot of ground on the recruiting trail. Kirby lost to Vandy and made some boneheaded calls earlier in his tenure (e.g. fake punt) so all is not lost.

Mullen was a good gameday coach until he checked out in Year 2021.

No doubt Mullen checked out. He had to go because of it.

Bowers for Heisman? Why not? He is the best at any position on the field.

Give Reggie his? Not in his lifetime. He chose to take an inducement. The penalty was the price you pay. And, I will never go to Wendy’s. You heard that marketing department? Admin?

Mizzou and Auburn. (headslap emoji inserted)

Hendon Hooker is on Kirby’s mind day and night. This guy may not play on Sundays but he’s awesome. Watch out, Coach Saban. Just saying. I’ve been saying since before the season started that Arky will beat Bama. Now I’m wondering about Smokey, too.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say he plays on Sundays..lol Have you noticed something? Teams that the media thinks will get to 9 plus wins whose QB’s puts up great numbers, only than start talking Heisman contention. This is exclusively true for TN in that regard. lol.

We will give it our best shot at Neyland. But we can’t have the same D scheme for the Bama game. Not bringing enough to pressure the QB is costly against Bama.

UGA/UT is the marquis SEC east game. Can’t help but believe Dawgs got the edge if the game played today. Vols got serious offensive firepower. UT Defense…can they hold the line against UGA offense? Tough assignment. Edge UGA. Can UGA defense dictate the pace and hold that lightning fast UT offense in check? Slight edge UGA. Dawgs better be ready though. UT gonna give the Dawgs a serious fight. A play here-or-there…Fumble, kick-off run-back, interception…anything can happen. Give-’em hell Orange…

I’m rooting for Tennessee to run the table in the East!

Pitt-Boss! Old school, punch-out coach with modern offense. Don’t know much about Ark D. Lot of SEC fans pulling for the Hogs. Rock on DoubleBlack…Great team in Fayetteville and well earned.

I think TN has a better chance if they bring in some freshman speed. We’ve used a few in the lesser games but their as fast or faster than the starters. This has solely been the reason why few have scored on us in the lesser games on the backups in the second half of games. If we use the speed, play clean offense, best chance to beat UGA since 16 and we wouldn’t need a hail Mary to win.

I think I’ve reached the ‘acceptance’ stage of grief. I’m done being angry and depressed, this season is hopeless so no point in having hope.

After watching that Auburn game, it’s very obvious that Drink and harsin are cut from the same cloth. They deserved a chance in the power 5 but quickly proved that their style doesn’t work at this level. Drink’s refusal to adapt will cost him his job. Harsin is already fired, just waiting for the next loss to announce it.

Good luck to everyone else. Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas are as advertised. I wish Mizzou was able to keep the pace with you.

Every school goes through its issues, especially when cycling between coaches every 5 years, Mizzou has proven it can compete with and beat SEC opponents but always seem to go downhill after a loss. Maybe its a motivation problem, or maybe the people in charge arnt recruiting with the “next man up” mentality.

In any case, I cheer for all the SEC tigers when were not playing each other, so its good when yall and Auburn are doing good (at least LSU seems okay this year lmao)

(Except clempson. They can go to h3ll with that “real death valley” bs)

In time they will get there. All it takes is one offensive minded coach and a competent DC. A good AD can help with that. Your building your brand there and got some good recruits for the next class. Plus the transfer portal can really help in the short term. I think Drink could be gone sooner than people think, and that means new opportunity, new style of play. Don’t check out just yet. You have talent on your team. Just need the right scheme to make it work. Now, what will you think if AU goes out there next weeks and beats UK? I think this is a real possibility.

The Arkansas vs ATM game doesn’t show ATM is a good team…. it shows how bad and sloppy play will lose you games. I hope the Arkansas coaching staff puts this one in the archives to show the Arkansas teams of the future. You couldn’t draw up a better example of losing a rivalry game due to sloppy tackling and sloppy decision making.

With KJ Jefferson being a Captain, I hope he took the time in the locker room to apologize to his team. That one superman flop changed the game.

At this point, Arkansas has the pieces in place for a good season. They have flashes of a top 10 team, but have yet to put it together.

We’ll see if they can improve upon last year or if their record gets worse this year. Either way, so long as we don’t go back to the Chad Morris era, I’ll continue to wear my Arkansas gear in Colorado. WPS!!!

Your a good team that lose a close one to a team that has more blue chips on it than most. That depth eventually always improves, no matter who upsets them early on in a season. KJ just needs a bit more in the passing game and this is a top 10 team. It’s odd but somehow I feel TN would fair better in a matchup with Bama than AR. No data to back this up but KJ just looks more to bring down running free. Pittman is a good coach and your way more physical this year than last year. That is called a power base and there aren’t many in the SEC. It did very well matching the lines of a depth laced Tamu team. Whether Tamu is learning this system fast enough, those lines are doing the same job they will be doing. That is the current strength of their team and you well stood your ground.

5 (!) ACC teams ranked and Kansas is 26? WA ST 29; OR ST 31; yes the Bruins has played cupcakes but 4-0 and UCLA is ranked 35?

Oklahoma and Texas, are you certain that with Amazon looking for CFB content you want to join the SEC? The B12 with the 4 new members and OK and TX staying would be the premier CBB conference, very good in football and while not equaling what the B1G and SEC teams will make the B12 would not have been that far off.

Bo Nix was great yesterday but WAZZU Coug-ed it.

“Simply put, Bowers is doing things we haven’t seen a tight end do. Ever.”

Yes, he is an even better TE than Pitts was.

Uh, he’s exceptional. But no.

Uh, yeah. Bowers is doing things Pitts never even dreamed of doing.

Take your ‘turd goggles off and recognize the talent on display.

Take your dogsh_t goggles off. Bowers is very good. But he is an inch shorter, 20 pounds lighter and a tenth of a second slower than Pitts.

Bowers is an exceptional tight end. Pitts is a unicorn.

Gotta agree with Nash on this point. Early games, but Bowers is certainly the real deal. Pitts showed a lot at UF and holds that talent in the league…bending for catches like a WR, toughness, goes over the middle. Bowers doing similar stuff…outright best TE in college ball today. Best CFB TE ever? To be determined, but a force nonetheless. He’s a beast.

Can’t believe I agree with a Chris Wright column.

These are strange days indeed.

Absolute respect for Arkansas. I love these games as they’re almost always a dogfight. Glad my team won, even if by a doink. State’s passing game scares me, and it’s in Starkville. We’ll have to see if the defense is for real. KJ got downfield a few times but not like Rogers can.

Maybe Arkansas outplayed the Aggies for most of the game. BUT if you were really paying attention and you had to be carefully listening…after the piggies missed that field goal in the 4th quarter, there appeared a shadowy thumb’s up giving the Gig ’em sign at the top of Jerry World and there was a faint very low voice which said “Gig ’em Aggies!” …so it was just fate, it was meant to be for the Fightin’ Texas Aggies to win that game against the piggies…WHOOP! … LOL

1.Bama looked the best they have looked all season to me..everything just looked cleaner imo.2.the Kent state game means nothing about Georgia except the players were uninterested in playing the game if they had been it would have been like 59-0..welcome to complacency..they will be fine unless they get complacent against an sec foe..3.yes I believe Tennessee is a possible play off contender..I don’t believe the vols are a slam dunk win for anyone they play including Bama & Georgia.that’s about all I’m interested in from this article.peace out homies

Reggie Bush lost his Heisman because he broke the rules. He took money from an agent. Guess what, that is still against the rules. Taking money for a legitimate enterprise is different from taking it from an agent.

Kent State should put photos of their murdered students on their helmets.

At least Georgia get a bye this Saturday (they go to MIZZOU).
