With the cold weather, many people may be dealing with frozen pipes. The American Red Cross provides some tips on how to defrost and protect plumbing in your home.

According to the organization’s website, water expands when it freezes, putting pressure on metal or plastic pipes.

"Regardless of the strength of the container, the expanding water will cause the pipe to rupture," the Red Cross said.
